KEYENCE's Commitment to the RoHS Directive

Since April 2005 we have been progressively eliminating hazardous substances from our products and implementing the switch to RoHS compliant products. KEYENCE recognizes that protecting our environment is of paramount importance to the whole planet. We give sincere consideration to the protection and improvement of the global environment in all aspects of our business activities.

The RoHS Directive. The RoHS Directive will take effect in EU member states on July 1st 2006. Under the directive, it will no longer be permissible to market electronic and electrical equipment that contain certain chemical substances. When deciding what products are RoHS applicable, the following ten categories determined by the EU are considered. Note that under the RoHS directive, medical devices and monitoring and control instruments are out of scope. (Correct as of July 2006)

Substances Banned under the RoHS Directive1.:
  • Lead (including lead compounds): Not in excess of 1,000 ppm
  • Mercury (including mercurial compounds): Not in excess of 1,000 ppm
  • Cadmium (including cadmium compounds): Not in excess of 100 ppm
  • Hexavalent Chromium (including chromium compounds): Not in excess of 1,000 ppm
  • Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB): Not in excess of 1,000 ppm
  • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE): Not in excess of 1,000 ppm
1.However, articles exempted from the RoHS Directive are not within the scope of the above criterion.

3 IT and telecommunications equipment  
4 Consumer equipment  
5 Lighting equipment  
6 Electronic and electrical tools (excluding large-scale stationary industrial tools)  
7 Toys, leisure and sports equipment  
8 Medical devices (excluding all implanted and infected products) Not part of RoHS2.
9 Monitoring and control instruments Not part of RoHS2.
10 Automatic dispensers
